We bought ourselves a house!

We closed on the new "Broken" house this week!!!! Finally!!!! After a summer full of home inspections and follow up inspections (see picture of our poor kids watching a video on the laptop in their comfy chairs during one of several inspections).

On Tuesday, we had the closing and made the last overnight envelope delivery pickup for FedEx. The packet had to go to the title company near Ft. Lauderdale. The next day, after the title company confirmed that they'd received the documents and everything was in order we got the lockbox code from the realtor, and we have the keys to the house.

So on Wednesday, September 8th, we went to the house for the first time, just the 4 of us. Tim carried me over the threshold for good luck, and Norah videotaped it. Video link to follow after we charge up the video camera. I think our girl has a budding career as a documentary filmmaker.... Timmy wants in on it too, so much so, they wore down the video camera battery and it's charging as I write this entry. They now call "the Broken House" by a new name, it's "the Awesome House," because we own it. The power of positive thinking! Here's the picture our friend and new neighbor (and kids' preschool teacher), Joanne Brown took right after being carried over the threshold.... Notice Tim's face is not TOO red from the exertion.

Anyway the work has begun! Tim already cut the grass, a feat in and of itself since it was so bad. He actually cut it so as to make it easier to kill it. The front grass must be completely re-sodded, and he cut it low so that the Roundup could penetrate easier to the grass roots. We have scheduled a number of big ticket item repairs: full air conditioner replacement, well water conditioning equipment replacement, tile and laminate flooring removal and replacement, garage door opener install, and countertop replacement. Those are just what's on the schedule after the first 48 hours! I am also planning a garden for the backyard and am researching composters. Who knew my parents were on the cutting edge of vegetable garden technology????

With the countertops, I am trying to decide between granite and concrete. They are both beautiful, but I am a little curious about the concrete. I will have to take some pictures and let you decide.

On tap for this weekend is the Pergo flooring removal and wallpaper removal. Before and after photographs soon to follow. If I'm feeling up to it, I'll get the closets painted. I can't wait!
